Magento 2: Understand subscriptions

You can use recurring payments to charge customers on a regular basis. Customers make the first payment with the payment method of their choice. Subsequent payments happen automatically using direct debits or credit card charges.

Tip

• To reduce the risk of chargebacks, we recommend that you clearly communicate to your customers how much and how often they will be charged.

• We also recommend that you notify your customers a few of days in advance of the each payment, for example by sending them an email.

Supported payment methods

Customers who buy a subscription from your store must make an initial payment with a supported payment method. In so doing, they authorise payments for future instalments of their subscription.

If your customer initially paid with a credit/debit card, all their subsequent payments are by credit/debit card. If they pay with any other payment method, all their subsequent payments are by SEPA Direct Debit.
